Akeelah and the Bee: Our Greatest Fear

The poem Dr. Larabee has Akeelah read states:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."

Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?
What are some of the things people fear about either success or failure?

Your answer should be at least 30 words long and in standard English.

Akeelah and the Bee: Lying

Why do you think he lied?
What might have happened if he told Akeelah the truth in the first place?
Have you ever told a lie when it felt like the right thing to do?

Answer one or all of these questions. Your answer should be at least 30 words long and in standard English.

The Holocaust

Looking from a distance, it's easy to judge the non-Jews in Germany, Poland, and other countries, who just stood by while their neighbors were treated brutally and taken away. It's easy, though, to just turn away from other people's suffering, especially when standing up might mean you or people you love might get hurt, too.

Try to imagine yourself in Nazi Germany. Would you rather be the Jews or one of the people who had to decide what to do? Why do you make that choice? Being as honest as  you can be, how do you think you would have behaved?

Your answer must be at least 50 words and written in complete sentences.
